Writing rules – My writing journey (Part 2)

When writing my self-help book about energy management the following two habits really helped me to keep writing, to keep my creativity and my energy.

Write every day.

Don’t wait for inspiration to strike or for the stars to align – just write, every single day. I made it non-negotiable: a daily calendar block to show up, no matter my mood or the quality of my first sentences. Some days, the words pour out; other days, it’s more of a dribble. Consistency – not intensity – turns scattered thoughts into a manuscript. If you keep moving forward, even in small steps, you’ll be amazed at the progress you make over time.

Move your body, move your mind.

Whenever I hit a wall or found myself staring at a stubborn sentence, I don’t force it. I get up and move. Sometimes it is a brisk walk, a few stretches, or even a quick dance break in my home office. Physical movement shakes loose mental knots and infuses my writing with new energy. I’ve found that stepping away from my desk – just for five or ten minutes – often leads to unexpected breakthroughs when I return.

Each of these habits isn’t just about productivity – they’re about keeping my energy tank full. Writing can be draining, but by building in daily momentum and moving your body, you’ll find fresh reserves of creativity and stamina you didn’t know you had.

What’s your secret to staying energized – whether you’re writing or working on any long-term project? Drop your favorite habit (or quirky ritual!) in the comments. I’d love to hear what keeps you going!
