I love this time of the year because it feels like hitting the reset button and starting fresh. It is that time when many of us make promises to go to the gym more often or eat healthier. 🏋️♂️🍉
An alternative to traditional New Year’s resolutions that I find particularly powerful is choosing a Word of the Year (WOTY). This practice involves selecting a single word that encapsulates your intentions and aspirations for the year ahead.
Here is how it works: Reflect on the past year and consider any lessons you’ve learned and any recurring themes. Then visualize your ideal year ahead and imagine how you want to feel, what you want to achieve, and the qualities or energies that will help you reach those goals. ✨
Once identified, the word of the year will help you to focus, to make the right choices, and how to show up each day. It will help align your actions with your core values and priorities.
Last year my word was SIMPLIFY. This year I have chosen CURIOSITY. For me, curiosity means stepping out of my comfort zone, experimenting, taking a risk, being open to new experiences. It encourages me to ask more questions and to cultivate a mindset of continuous learning.
Choosing a word for the year can be a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation. It provides a sense of direction and purpose, helping you navigate the year with intention and focus.
