My Career Advise After Working Two Decades in the Same Company

As I celebrate 20 years of service at PPD now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, I would like to share some career advice.

The professional world can be challenging, but with the right mindset and strategies, everyone can navigate it successfully.

✅ Own Your Career, Especially in Difficult Times: Your career is your responsibility. Take charge of your professional path, even when faced with obstacles. Use challenging times as opportunities to learn and grow and not to blame your boss or the company.

✅ Prioritize Rest and Self-Care: Self-care and energy renewal should be a daily practice, not an emergency procedure. Breaks aren't a luxury; they are an important power move for your performance. Taking time to rest and recharge doesn't make you less productive—in fact, the opposite is more likely to happen. Make sure to prioritize your well-being to maintain high levels of productivity and creativity.

✅ Stay Curious: Never stop learning. The industry is constantly evolving, and staying curious will keep you ahead of the curve. Seek out new knowledge, skills, and experiences that can expand your horizons.

✅ Invest in a Mentor: Having a mentor can be immensely beneficial. A mentor provides guidance, support, and insights that can help you navigate your career more effectively. Don’t hesitate to seek out and invest time in building a mentorship relationship.

✅ Build a Strong Network: Networking is crucial in today’s professional world. Connect with colleagues, industry professionals, and thought leaders. A strong network can open doors to new opportunities and provide valuable support throughout your career.

✅ Embrace Change: The only constant in our industry is change. Be adaptable and open to new approaches and technologies. Embracing change will not only make you resilient but also position you as a forward-thinking professional.

✅ Say What You Do and Do What You Say: Be transparent about the progress you make and the risks you face. Follow through on your commitments and keep your promises. This builds trust and credibility with your colleagues and stakeholders.

Thank you to all my colleagues, mentors, and leaders who have supported me along the way. Here’s to a few more years of growth and success together!
